[Verse 1] Naaman was captain, respected and brave, Yet leprosy marked what his victories could not save. A captive young servant spoke hope to his wife: "Would God he were with the prophet of life." Letters and silver crossed into the land; The king rent his garment, unable to stand. [Refrain] Wash in Jordan, Seven times below. Not through grand performance, Not the rivers thou dost know. Wash in Jordan, Let pride descend first; The simple word obeyed Will cleanse the hidden curse. [Verse 2] Elisha sent only a messenger out: "Go dip in Jordan." Naaman stormed in doubt. "Are not Abana and Pharpar more clean?" He turned in a rage from the humble routine. His servants approached him with reason and grace: "Had some great thing been required, wouldst thou not face?" [Turn] He lowered once, twice, till the seventh was done. His flesh came again like the flesh of a son. He returned and confessed before heaven and earth: No God but Israel's had granted new birth. [Final Refrain] Wash in Jordan, Where obedience meets the stream. The proud man rose a healed man, Cleaner than his dream.
