Needles lay still where her hands had worked, Coats in the arms of the widows she served. Tabitha slept in the upper room, And Joppa wore the weight of the tomb. They washed her body and sent for the man Who had come near Lydda at mercy's command. Peter arrived where the weeping stood, Each garment a witness that love had been good. Tabitha, arise, Open thine eyes. The room that held mourning receives her again, The hands that gave mercy are lifted from death. Tabitha, arise, The Lord of life hears when His servant prays. He put them all out and knelt by the bed, No theater gathered around the dead. He turned to the body after seeking the Lord, And life answered quietly under the word. She opened her eyes and saw Peter there, He gave her his hand and helped her to stand. The saints and the widows were called to the room, And faith spread through Joppa beyond the old gloom. Tabitha, arise, Open thine eyes. The coats still remembered the kindness she gave, Now she stood living where mourners had prayed. Mercy had stitched her witness, And life returned to the room.
