The Image of the Invisible God
Colossians · Operatic cinematic
[Thanksgiving]
Faith in Christ Jesus and love for the saints,
Hope laid in heaven through gospel proclaimed.
Fruit in the world as the truth became known,
Grace understood where Epaphras had sown.
[Prayer]
Be filled with the knowledge of His will and way,
Walk worthy, bear fruit, and grow every day.
Strengthened with might for endurance and joy,
Giving thanks to the Father who made us His own.
[Chorus]
The image of the invisible God,
Firstborn before all creation began.
By Him were all things in heaven and earth,
Thrones and dominions, each power and rank.
The image of the invisible God,
Before all things, and in Him all consist.
[Verse II]
He is the head of the body, the church,
Beginning and firstborn from death in the earth.
In all things preeminent, fullness at home,
Peace through the blood of His cross has been made.
[Bridge]
Enemies once in the mind and in deed,
Now reconciled through His body indeed.
Presented as holy, unblamable, clear,
If grounded in faith and not moved from the hope.
[Final Chorus]
The image of the invisible God,
Creator, sustainer, and head of the church.
The cross reconciles what rebellion estranged,
And gospel hope stands under all He has made.
[Coda]
The hymn rose beyond creation,
Then returned to the blood of the cross.
