[Verse 1] Daniel excelled above princes and presidents; No fault was found in his labor or hand. Envy devised that his faith be the target: Thirty days' prayer only under the king's command. Daniel heard writing was signed and unchanging; Windows toward Jerusalem opened as before. Three times he knelt, gave thanks, and made prayer; Accusers found evidence waiting at the door. Morning revealed the faithful Preserved within the den. [Verse 2] Darius labored till sunset to free him, But Median law held the ruler in chain. The king spent the night without music or supper, Then hurried at dawn and called out through the pain: "O Daniel, servant of the living God, Was thy God able to rescue and save?" Daniel answered with honor and mercy: An angel had guarded his life from the grave.
