The Sea Stood Up

Exodus 12:37-15:21

[Verse 1] Six hundred thousand journeyed with the mixed and moving crowd, Joseph's bones went with them while the cloud became their shroud. Fire watched the darkness, cloud directed every day, Then Pharaoh's chariots thundered where the sea blocked Israel's way. [Pre-Chorus] Fear cried out behind the camp, But Moses told the people, "Stand and see." [Chorus] The sea stood up on either side, A road of dust where depths had been. The cloud moved back, the wind blew all night, And Israel walked through walls of sea. [Verse 2] Egypt drove between the waters, wheels began to bind, The morning watch brought terror as the LORD confused their line. Moses stretched his hand again, the sea returned in force, And horse and rider disappeared beneath the closing course. [Bridge] On the farther shore the people saw the army washed away, Believed the LORD and sang the song that still remembers that day. Miriam raised the timbrel, women answered in refrain, The horse and rider cast beneath the sea that stood again. [Final Chorus] The sea stood up on either side, A road of dust where depths had been. The slaves crossed over, the chains stayed behind, And Israel walked through walls of sea. [Outro] The cloud went forward, And the shore became a song.
