Lyrics · Exodus
The Mountain Trembled
Exodus 18:1-20:26
[Verse 1]
Jethro came with Moses' household after hearing what God did,
Shared a meal with Israel's elders and blessed the One who rescued them.
Then he watched one man bear every judgment all day long,
And taught him how to share the weight with leaders wise and strong.
[Pre-Chorus]
Israel reached the mountain,
And washed to meet the covenant voice.
[Chorus]
The mountain trembled, trumpet thundered,
Cloud and fire crowned Sinai's height.
The people stood beyond the boundary,
While Moses walked into the dark where God spoke light.
[Verse 2]
The LORD recalled the eagle wings that carried them from chains,
Called them priests and holy nation if they kept His covenant way.
Thunder split the morning, smoke rose like a furnace high,
And every voice within the camp was shaken by the cry.
[Bridge]
No other gods, no carved image, honor name and Sabbath rest,
Honor father, honor mother, murder, theft, and lust suppressed.
False witness and the coveting that hides within the heart,
Then simple earth beneath the altar where true worship had to start.
[Final Chorus]
The mountain trembled, trumpet thundered,
Cloud and fire crowned Sinai's height.
The people stood in fear and wonder,
While Moses walked into the dark where God spoke light.
[Outro]
The slaves had crossed the sea,
Now covenant called them a nation.
