[Processional Opening]
Three months from Egypt, they camped at the stone;
Eagles had carried them out to their own.
Called to be treasure, a kingdom of priests,
They washed all their garments and waited in peace.
Bounds marked the mountain; no hand could draw near;
Morning came clothed in thick cloud and in fear.
[Refrain]
The mountain burned with fire,
The trumpet sounded long.
Thunder rolled above them,
And Sinai answered strong.
The people stood at distance,
While Moses entered higher;
The covenant was spoken
Where the mountain burned with fire.
[Command Litany]
No other gods before the Lord.
No carved image to adore.
Do not bear the holy name in vain.
Remember Sabbath and refrain.
Honor father, honor mother.
Do not murder one another.
Do not break the marriage vow.
Do not steal what is not yours now.
Do not witness falsely told.
Do not covet house or gold.
[Bridge]
The people begged that Moses hear,
For direct thunder filled them with fear.
Yet holy fear was meant to restrain
The sin that led them back toward chain.
[Final Refrain]
The mountain burned with fire,
But covenant drew near:
A people called to holiness,
A law made bright and clear.
