[Opening Hook]
Laughter in the tent,
Laughter in the air,
A promise once impossible
Was breathing over there.
[Verse 1]
Three men stood near in the heat of the day,
Abraham hurried and begged them to stay.
Bread from the measure, a calf from the herd,
Shade for the travelers, then came the word:
"At the time appointed a son shall appear."
Sarah behind them was listening near.
[Pre-Refrain]
She laughed in the silence, too old for the spring,
But nothing is hard for the Lord of all things.
[Refrain]
Who could have told Abraham,
Who could have told his wife,
That age would cradle covenant,
That barrenness would carry life?
The child was named for laughter,
The promise wore a face;
Isaac cried beneath the stars,
A son of patient grace.
[Verse 2]
The Lord visited as the Lord had said,
Joy entered where every hope had seemed dead.
Sarah gave suck in the shade of the tent;
Neighbors heard wonder and laughter was sent.
Eight days later the covenant sign,
A child in their arms at the appointed time.
[Final Hook]
Laughter in the tent,
Laughter in the air,
The promise once impossible
Was sleeping safely there.
