The Hidden Thing

Joshua 7:1-8:29

[Verse 1] One man touched the devoted things and anger crossed the camp, Three thousand climbed against Ai trusting numbers and report. Thirty-six fell on the road and courage melted into water, Joshua tore his clothes before the ark and asked why God had brought them. [Pre-Chorus] "Rise up, Israel has sinned," The hidden thing had broken covenant. [Chorus] The hidden thing beneath the tent, Silver, gold, and garment buried in the earth. What no army saw, the LORD uncovered, And defeat remained until the sin was brought to light. [Verse 2] Tribe and family, household, man, the narrowing lot found Achan, He confessed the coveted treasure and the messengers retrieved it. Achor held the judgment under stones beside the valley, Then the anger turned and Ai became the next command. [Bridge] Thirty thousand waited hidden on the western side by night, Joshua drew the king away with feigned retreat before the city. When the spear stretched out, the ambush rose and smoke climbed high, Ai looked behind and saw no road of flight. [Final Chorus] The hidden thing beneath the tent, Silver, gold, and garment buried in the earth. When the covenant was cleansed, the army rose again, And the defeat at Ai became a victory by the plan. [Outro] Sin came into the open, And the spear pointed toward Ai.
