[Spoken Intro]
A runner out of Gibeon,
dust up to his knees.
Five kings are at our walls.
Come quick. Come save us, please.
[Verse 1]
All night up out of Gilgal,
all night on the climbing road,
no fire, no rest, no talking,
every man beneath his load.
We hit them at the break of day
and the LORD struck them with fear.
They broke and ran for Beth-horon
with us behind them, near.
[Pre-Chorus]
Then the sky came down in stones,
big as fists and hard as bone,
and more men fell beneath the hail
than all our swords had cut alone.
[Chorus]
Sun, stand still, don't you dare go down,
hang like a fire over Gibeon town.
Moon, hold on over Ajalon.
The LORD's still fighting and the fight's still on.
Sun, stand still. Sun, stand still.
[Verse 2]
The sun was high above the hill.
We had them on the run.
The day was going, going,
and the fighting wasn't done.
Then Joshua stood before us all
and lifted up his head.
He spoke out to the open sky,
and God heard what he said.
[Chorus]
Sun, stand still, don't you dare go down,
hang like a fire over Gibeon town.
Moon, hold on over Ajalon.
The LORD's still fighting and the fight's still on.
Sun, stand still. Sun, stand still.
[Bridge]
It hung up there a whole day long
and never once went down.
No day before or after it
has ever come around
where God Himself would hold the sky
because a man cried out loud.
[Verse 3]
Five kings ran for Makkedah
and crawled into a cave.
We rolled great stones across the mouth
and left a guard to wait.
When the chase was done we brought them out,
five kings into the light,
and our captains set their feet on them,
and the stones went back that night.
[Final Chorus]
Sun, stand still, don't you dare go down,
hang like a fire over Gibeon town.
Moon, hold on over Ajalon.
The LORD's still fighting and the fight's still on.
Sun, stand still. Sun, stand still.
God was fighting on our side
the day the sun stood still.
[Outro]
Hail on the road.
Five in the cave.
Sun, stand still.

About the passage
Joshua 10: The battle for the city Israel had sworn to spare
The treaty with Gibeon immediately becomes costly when five Amorite kings attack the city for making peace with Israel. Joshua marches through the night to relieve the ally Israel had sworn to spare, and the campaign expands from surprise attack to hailstones and the extraordinary delay of sunset. The account repeatedly insists that the LORD fights for Israel even while Joshua's army marches, pursues, traps, and attacks. Five kings hide in a cave that becomes first a prison and later their tomb, while successive city captures push the southern campaign across the region. The repeated formulas create a sweeping victory record, but small differences remain important: not every city falls in exactly the same way, and defeating Gezer's king does not equal capturing Gezer itself. The chapter closes by gathering the campaign into one explanation and one return. The LORD fought for Israel, and Joshua brings the army back to Gilgal.
