The LORD Has Loved You

Lyrics · Malachi

The LORD Has Loved You

Malachi 1:1-5

[Opening Question] A burden came through Malachi, A covenant word to Israel's door: The LORD declared his lasting love, The people asked, “What love, and where?” [Verse I] Jacob and Esau shared one household, Yet history traveled different roads. The choice was grace, not human boasting, Not merit hidden in the blood. [Refrain] Love may rebuke the heart it claims; Covenant fire is not a game. [Verse II] Edom says, “The walls are broken, But we will build the ruins again.” They raise the stone; the judgment answers, Pride cannot make the waste a friend. [Chorus] The LORD has loved you, says the burden, Even when the people cannot see. Not a soft word without justice, But a fierce covenant fidelity. The LORD has loved you, says the burden, Questioned by a doubtful generation. Beyond the border God is magnified, Greater than rebuilding arrogance. [Bridge] The mountains of Edom keep the witness, The heritage bears the scar. Human resolve cannot overrule The Judge whose greatness reaches far. [Final Chorus] The LORD has loved you, says the burden, Not because every road was kind. Love has carried, chosen, corrected, Held the promise through the time. The LORD has loved you, says the burden, Let the skeptical heart regard: The LORD is great beyond the border, Faithful, holy, just, and large. [Outro] The question remained in the people; The answer stood in history.
