[Opening Verse]
Tables stood where prayer should rise,
Coins rang loud beneath the courts.
Doves were sold and bargains shouted,
Traffic pressed through sacred ports.
Jesus drove the merchants outward,
Overturned the changers' chair:
"His Father's house is called for prayer;
You have made a robbers' lair."
[Chorus]
A house of prayer for every nation,
Not a market dressed in praise.
Let the courts return to mercy;
Let the holy name be raised.
A house of prayer,
Where blind and lame may enter near;
Children cried the Son of David,
While the rulers answered fear.
[Verse 2]
Priests demanded His authority;
Questions met them in return.
John's baptism held them cornered,
Truth was weighed against concern.
Vineyard tenants killed the servants,
Then the heir they should have known.
The rejected stone became the cornerstone,
And judgment faced the throne.
[Bridge - Confrontation]
Render Caesar what is Caesar's.
Give to God what bears His image.
Love the Lord and love thy neighbor:
All the law hangs in the linkage.
Widow's mites outweighed abundance;
Two small coins revealed the heart.
[Final Chorus]
A house of prayer,
But outward robes concealed decay.
He wept over blinded leaders
Who would not gather in the way.
The temple heard its final warning;
Empty splendor would depart.
A house of prayer begins in truth,
Not trade within the heart.
