[Verse 1]
An upper room was furnished,
The Passover prepared.
Twelve reclined around the table,
Though betrayal also shared.
Bread was blessed and broken,
The cup passed hand to hand;
A covenant in blood was signaled
Before they understood the plan.
[Refrain]
This do in remembrance.
Take the bread and take the cup.
Tell the death until He comes;
Let the scattered heart look up.
This do in remembrance,
When the years and nations run.
The table keeps the covenant
Of what the Lord has done.
[Verse 2]
He rose and laid aside His garments,
Took a towel, poured the bowl,
Washed the feet of every servant,
Gave humility a role.
One would sell, one would deny Him,
All would scatter in the night;
Yet a new command of love
Would mark disciples in the light.
[Bridge - Farewell]
Let not the heart be troubled.
The Comforter shall come.
Branches bear their fruit by abiding;
Hatred cannot overcome.
Peace was given unlike the world gives;
Sorrow would be turned to joy.
[Prayer Movement]
He prayed that those the Father gave Him
Might be one and kept from evil;
Truth would sanctify their witness,
Love would reach another people.
[Final Refrain]
This do in remembrance.
Bread and cup beneath the night.
The table stood before the garden,
Before the cross, before the light.
