Lyrics · Micah
Swords into Plowshares
Micah 4:1-13
[Ascending Verse]
In the latter days the mountain rises,
Higher than the hills of human pride.
Many nations leave their old devices,
Climb to learn the path where truth will guide.
[Refrain]
Come, let us go to the house of the LORD,
His law from Zion, from Jerusalem his word.
[Verse II]
He will judge between the distant peoples,
Settle strong disputes from shore to shore.
Iron swords are beaten into plowshares,
Spears become the pruning hooks of war.
[Chorus]
Swords into plowshares, fear into peace,
Nation shall not make the battle increase.
Each one shall sit where the vine branches grow,
Under the fig tree with no threatening foe.
Swords into plowshares, learning his ways,
Walking in his name through the length of our days.
[Interlude: The Remnant]
The lame are gathered, the outcast brought near,
The wounded made strong after sorrow and fear.
The former dominion returns to the hill,
The LORD reigns in Zion, his purpose fulfilled.
[Minor Movement]
Why does the daughter of Zion cry loud?
No king in her gates, no counselor found.
She labors like birth pangs and goes to the plain,
To Babylon's distance, to rescue through pain.
[Bridge]
Many nations assemble and say,
“Let Zion be stained; let our eyes have their day.”
They do not know counsel, they cannot perceive
The harvest God gathers from powers that deceive.
[Final Chorus]
Swords into plowshares, grief into grain,
Zion shall rise through the birth pang and pain.
Horn made of iron and hoof made of brass,
The gathered oppressor will not always last.
Swords into plowshares, fear into peace,
The LORD of the whole earth brings violence to cease.
[Quiet Coda]
Every one beneath vine and tree,
And none shall make them afraid.
