The Joy of Jerusalem Was Heard Afar Off

Nehemiah 12:27-47

[Verse 1] Levites are sought from every place for Jerusalem's wall dedication. Singers gather from villages around Jerusalem and the Netophathite countryside. The people, gates, and wall are also purified. Two great thanksgiving companies are appointed. [Pre-Chorus] The long night ended, fear released its hold, And every household heard the story told. [Chorus] The Joy of Jerusalem Was Heard Afar Off, let the feast begin, Joy returned where grief and fear had been. The people sang because the word held true, And every generation learned what God could do. [Verse 2] The procession passes the fountain gate and climbs the stairs of David's city. It continues above David's house toward the east water gate. The second thanksgiving company goes in the opposite direction with Nehemiah. The route reaches Hananeel, Meah, the sheep gate. [Bridge] Priests sound trumpets while singers serve under Jezrahiah. Great sacrifices and rejoicing include women and children. Jerusalem's joy is heard from far away. Chambers, offerings, firstfruits, tithes, priestly portions, singers, and gatekeepers receive renewed support. [Final Chorus] The Joy of Jerusalem Was Heard Afar Off, let the feast begin, Joy returned where grief and fear had been. The people sang because the word held true, And every generation learned what mercy still could do. [Outro] The feast became a memory to keep. Joy learned the name of those who once would weep.
