When the Cloud Lifted

Numbers 9:1-10:36

[Verse 1] Passover returned at Sinai in the first appointed month, And those unclean by death were given time to come again. One law held the native and the stranger in the camp, For remembrance had a doorway, but neglect still carried blame. [Pre-Chorus] Cloud by day, fire by night, Rest or journey followed only at the sign. [Chorus] When the cloud lifted, Israel moved, When the cloud settled, every tribe stood still. Silver trumpets called the order, And the ark went forward seeking where the people should rest. [Verse 2] One blast called the princes, two alarms sent standards out, Judah first, then Reuben, Ephraim, and Dan behind. Gershon, Merari, Kohath bore the dwelling and its things, Every company advanced according to the word. [Bridge] Moses asked that Hobab guide the wilderness ahead, Yet the ark went three days forward seeking out a place. Whenever it arose, he prayed for enemies to flee, Whenever it returned, he called the LORD to countless Israel. [Final Chorus] When the cloud lifted, Israel moved, When the cloud settled, every tribe stood still. Trumpets sounded war and worship, And the ark went forward seeking where the people should rest. [Outro] No schedule ruled the journey, Only presence in the cloud.
