Where You Go, I Will Go

Ruth 1:8-22

[Verse 1] Naomi blessed the daughters who had loved both living and dead, Kissed them on the road and told them, “Find another house and rest.” They lifted up their voices, but the future drew a line, Orpah turned toward Moab; Ruth held fast and would not leave. [Pre-Chorus] No promise of a husband, No reward within her sight. [Chorus] Where you go, I will go, Where you lodge, I will remain. Your people will be my people, Your God will be my God. Where you die, there I will rest, Nothing but death will make us part. [Verse 2] Naomi spoke of emptiness and sons she could not give, Of a hand that seemed against her and a future closed by grief. Still Ruth chose the road beside her, not the safety left behind, And the older woman saw the settled purpose in her eyes. [Bridge] Bethlehem stirred at their arrival: “Can this truly be Naomi?” “Do not call me pleasant; call me bitter,” came her answer through the gate. She had left with husband, sons, and hope, returned with Ruth alone, Yet barley stood at harvest when the two came home together. [Final Chorus] Where you go, I will go, Where you lodge, I will remain. Your people will be my people, Your God will be my God. Where you die, there I will rest, Nothing but death will make us part. [Outro] One woman turned toward Moab, One covenant walked to Bethlehem.
