The Redeemer at the Gate

Ruth 3:10-4:12

[Verse 1] Boaz blessed the loyal woman who had chosen covenant over youth, Promised he would do the matter, for the town had known her worth. Yet another man stood nearer and must first receive the right, So Ruth rested till the morning while an oath secured the night. [Pre-Chorus] Six measures filled her covering, Naomi said, “He will not rest.” [Chorus] The redeemer sat at the gate, Ten elders heard the name. Land and widow, house and future, All were held within the claim. A sandal passed, the right was given, And mercy stood before the town. [Verse 2] Before dawn Boaz guarded Ruth from every careless word, Sent her home with barley heavy, proof he had not sent her empty. Then he waited at the gateway till the nearer kinsman came, Spoke of Elimelech's possession and the duty tied to Ruth. [Bridge] At first the man desired the field, then feared his own inheritance, So the sandal sealed refusal and transferred the right to Boaz. He called the elders and the people: “You are witnesses today,” And they blessed the house like Rachel, Leah, Tamar, and Perez. [Final Chorus] The redeemer sat at the gate, Ten elders heard the name. Land and widow, house and future, All were held within the claim. A sandal passed, the right was given, And mercy stood before the town. [Outro] What grief had left without a future, Faithful kindness bought from loss.
