Two Priestly Lines Share the Service
Aaron had four sons, but two died without children before him. The priestly work continues through Eleazar and Ithamar. David works with Zadok and Ahimelech, priests from those two lines, to divide the service. Eleazar's line has sixteen leading households, while Ithamar's has eight. Lots determine the assignments because both lines have leaders fit for the sanctuary. Shemaiah, a Levite scribe, records the results before the king and other leaders. The two lines have different numbers of households. Their order is set in public.

A clinic scheduler draws names for weekend duty while staff representatives watch. Two departments have different numbers of eligible teams, so she checks the lists before beginning. A clerk records each result as it appears. Visibility matters as much as the final schedule. These priests receive sacred duties inherited through Aaron's family, not shifts based on employment.

Twenty Four Houses Take Their Places
The lots name twenty-four priestly groups in order. Jehoiarib receives the first place and Jedaiah the second. The list continues through the remaining households to Maaziah in the final place. Each group has its appointed turn to enter God's house for service. The order follows the charge given through Aaron, their ancestor, by Israel's God. These are not rankings of which priest matters most. They are arrangements for carrying out a shared duty. The full sequence makes room for every named group instead of leaving the later turns unstated.
In everyday life
The swimming club secretary pins a complete lane rota beside the pool. Every team can find its turn, including those near the bottom of the page. The order tells swimmers when to arrive, not whose effort matters most. An unfinished list would leave some teams guessing. The priestly order governs entry for service in God's house.

Other Levites Also Receive Public Lots
More family branches from Levi, the ancestor of the Levites, are listed after the priests. The entries follow fathers and sons, name leading men and note a household where Eleazar had no sons. These Levites also cast lots in front of David, the priests and the heads of the families. Senior leaders and younger relatives take part together. The same public method extends to the supporting workers. Their family ties remain clear. Age and rank do not remove them from the draw.
In everyday life
A volunteer coordinator places senior helpers and new recruits in the same draw for animal-shelter kennel duties. Long service still matters. It does not let anyone quietly choose the best place. People watch the draw and note where to report. The Levites' service follows inherited family lines and belongs to a sacred house.
