The big picture
Having heard the heavenly announcement, John, the man receiving these visions, now sees a woman, a child and a dragon. The scene moves between heaven and earth. The child is marked out to rule the nations. The dragon tries to destroy him, then turns on others who belong to God. Christians differ over how the woman represents Israel, God’s people, and Mary, the mother of Jesus, the promised ruler. The chapter shows both fierce danger and God’s care.

A Child Escapes the Dragon
A woman appears clothed in the sun, with the moon beneath her feet. Twelve stars form her crown. She cries out in the pain of birth. A red dragon waits to devour her baby. His seven heads and ten horns present a fearsome sight. His tail sweeps down a third of heaven’s stars. Yet the child reaches God’s throne, safe from his attack. This son is destined to rule all nations with firm authority. The woman flees to a place God has prepared. There she receives food for 1,260 days.
In everyday life
A maternity receptionist checks names as families arrive from a hospital closed by a nearby threat. A mother searches each face until she sees her baby with a nurse. Staff lead them towards rooms already set aside. Their relief is real, though the wider danger remains. John sees a dragon defeated by God, not an emergency transfer.
Notice
Revelation 12:6 God has prepared the woman’s refuge before she reaches it. Her flight shows danger, but the place and food also show care within that danger.

War Ends with Expulsion
Michael, an angel who leads other angels, fights the dragon in heaven. Both sides have forces with them. The dragon loses. He and his angels no longer have a place there. John identifies this enemy as the Devil, also called Satan. He is the deceiver who leads the whole world astray. The dragon falls to earth with his followers. This is no contest between equal powers that lasts for ever. The defeat is clear, even though the harm he causes on earth has not ended.
In everyday life
A pool attendant removes a banned swimmer’s access card after repeated threats against staff. The manager backs her and escorts him through the gate. Outside, he shouts at people heading in. His loss of access is complete, but staff still warn those approaching. Satan’s expulsion concerns heaven and worldwide deceit, not pool discipline.

Heaven Celebrates a Costly Victory
A loud voice in heaven announces rescue and God’s royal power. Satan used to accuse God’s people before him without pause. Now the accuser has been thrown down. The faithful overcome through the Lamb’s blood and their witness. The Lamb is Jesus, whose death brings their victory. They keep speaking for him even at the cost of their lives. Heaven has reason to rejoice. Earth and sea receive a warning instead. The Devil is full of rage because he knows his remaining time is short.
In everyday life
Two patients sit in a cancer clinic courtyard while one describes refusing to sign a false complaint against a nurse. Her treatment has made the dispute costly and tiring. She still stands by what she knows. Her friend listens without pretending that truth removes pain. The faithful in John’s vision face death and overcome through Jesus.
Notice
Revelation 12:11 Victory here does not mean that every faithful person avoids death. Their refusal to abandon their witness belongs to the victory, even when they are killed.

The Woman Receives Further Help
Thrown to earth, the dragon pursues the mother of the child. She receives great eagle’s wings and escapes to her refuge. There she is fed for a stated span of time. The serpent sends water from his mouth to sweep her away. Earth opens and swallows the flood instead. His attempt fails again. In anger he turns against the rest of her children. They are described by their obedience to God and their witness to Jesus Christ. The enemy changes his target, but his hatred remains the same.
In everyday life
A wildlife keeper opens a protected enclosure after a storm damages the outer fence. She moves the animals onto raised ground and clears a blocked drain. Water falls away from the shelter, but a warning light shows trouble at another pen. Protection in one place does not end every threat. The dragon’s pursuit is directed against God’s people.

Revelation 12:17 The woman’s other children are known by what they obey and whom they confess. The vision names their loyalty rather than listing their family names.
