The big picture
Rain is to be sought from the Lord. This message comes in Zechariah, the book named for God's prophet. Idols and false forecasts have left them wandering like sheep without a shepherd. God is angry with the failed leaders but turns towards the flock with care. He promises strength and homecoming for the southern and northern peoples. Scattered families will remember him far away, return with their children, and live in the strength he gives rather than the claims of false guides.

False Guidance Leaves the Flock Without Care
Seasonal rain must be sought from the Lord. He makes clouds and gives showers that bring grass to each field. Idols, by contrast, speak emptiness, and those claiming hidden knowledge offer lies and false dreams. Their comfort does not help, leaving the people like a wandering flock. God is angry with the shepherds and leading goats, images of failed rulers. He will care for Judah, his southern people, and make them strong in battle. Firm leadership and strength will arise among them, and enemy riders will fail because the Lord is with his people.
In everyday life
An agricultural adviser finds a farmer delaying needed action. A paid fortune-teller has promised rain on a fixed date. The field is still dry, and the promised comfort has supplied no water. She points him towards the real sources of help available. Zechariah directs prayer to the Lord who sends rain and judges leaders, not reliance on human farming advice.

Zechariah 10:2 The false words offer comfort but leave the flock troubled. A reassuring tone does not make a message true or give the care the people need.

Mercy Restores Strength and Shared Joy
Strength for Judah and rescue for Joseph's house are promised by God. Joseph's name stands for the northern people. He will bring them back and place them securely because he has mercy. They will be as though he had not rejected them, and he will hear them as their God. Ephraim, a northern tribe representing that people, will become strong and glad. Their children will see it and share joy in the Lord. God will call them together because he has redeemed them. Their numbers will grow again. The promise restores family life as well as a people's public strength.
In everyday life
A family-reunion organiser calls dispersed households with news that their shared home is ready again. Children listen as adults recognise voices they had missed for years. The gathering restores ties that distance had strained. Zechariah promises God redeeming and restoring entire peoples, not reunion secured by an organiser's invitation and prepared rooms.

Distant Families Return Through Removed Barriers
God pictures the people scattered among nations as seed sown far away. They will remember him there, live with their children, and return. He will gather them from Egypt and Assyria, lands associated with oppression and exile, into Gilead and Lebanon, regions of their restored home. So many will come that space is lacking. Sea and river barriers will yield, while the proud power of the nations holding them falls. God will make his people strong in himself, and they will live under his name. Distance, water, and imperial rule do not have the final claim over them.
In everyday life
A migration caseworker spreads a family's route across several countries and marks the crossings newly opened to them. The children are included in each document rather than left as a later problem. The path home is becoming passable. Zechariah promises God removing natural barriers and oppressive powers, not a return dependent on changing travel permissions.
Notice
Zechariah 10:9 Remembering God happens while the people are still in distant lands. Their scattered condition does not prevent a relationship that leads towards return with their children.
