Lyrics · 1 Chronicles
Give Thanks unto the LORD
1 Chronicles 16:7-43
[Verse 1]
David first delivers a psalm of thanksgiving to Asaph and his brethren.
The people are told to sing and speak of all his wondrous works.
Strength and divine presence are to be sought continually.
God's covenant with Abraham and oath to Isaac are recalled.
[Pre-Chorus]
The long night ended, fear released its hold,
And every household heard the story told.
[Chorus]
Give Thanks unto the LORD, let the feast begin,
Joy returned where grief and fear had been.
The people sang because the word held true,
And every generation learned what God could do.
[Verse 2]
All the earth is summoned to proclaim salvation day by day.
Divine glory and marvelous works are declared among nations.
The LORD is feared above all gods, which are only idols.
Families of peoples are called to bring glory and offerings.
[Bridge]
The psalm asks God to save and gather Israel from the nations.
The people answer Amen and praise the LORD.
Asaph's company remains before the ark for continual daily service.
Zadok ministers at Gibeon with offerings and music.
[Final Chorus]
Give Thanks unto the LORD, let the feast begin,
Joy returned where grief and fear had been.
The people sang because the word held true,
And every generation learned what mercy still could do.
[Outro]
The feast became a memory to keep.
Joy learned the name of those who once would weep.
