Death Is Swallowed Up in Victory

1 Corinthians · ceremonial brass-and-strings

[Received Gospel] Christ died for sins as the Scriptures had said, Was buried and rose on the third day from death. Seen by Cephas, the twelve, and a multitude more, Then last by the one who had ravaged the church. [Question] If Christ be proclaimed as raised from the tomb, Why say there is no resurrection to come? If He is not risen, then preaching is vain, And faith still lies captive beneath every stain. [Chorus] But now is Christ risen from the dead, The firstfruits of all who sleep. As death came by Adam, life comes by Christ, And every appointed order He keeps. But now is Christ risen from the dead, The last enemy, death, shall fall. [Seed Movement] What is sown does not rise unless first it dies, A bare grain is buried and God gives its life. Corruption is planted, incorruption raised, Dishonor gives way to glory and strength. [Trumpet Bridge] Behold, I show you a mystery, We shall not all sleep, but all shall be changed. In a moment, the final trumpet will sound, The dead raised incorruptible from the ground. [Final Chorus] Death is swallowed up in victory, O death, where now is thy sting? Thanks be to God who gives us the victory Through Jesus Christ our Lord and King. Be steadfast, unmovable, always abounding, Your labor in Him is not vain. [Outro] The grave is still entered, But it no longer has the final word.
