A House for the Name

1 Kings 5:1-7:51

[Verse 1] Hiram of Tyre sends servants after hearing Solomon has become king. With peace on every side, Solomon declares his purpose to build. Hiram rejoices that God has given David a wise son. A levy of thirty thousand Israelites works in monthly shifts in Lebanon. [Pre-Chorus] The people drew near, but not by careless way, Holiness ordered every word and day. [Chorus] A House for the Name, keep the covenant in view, Every word and ordered service true. From altar, ark, and house the witness rose, The holy God alone the ending knows. [Verse 2] The temple's length, breadth, height, porch, and windows are established. Side chambers rise around the house without fastening into the sacred walls. The LORD promises to dwell among Israel if Solomon obeys the statutes. The inner oracle is prepared to receive the ark of the covenant. [Bridge] Carvings of cherubim, palms, and flowers cover walls, doors, and floors with gold. The temple is finished after seven years of labor. Solomon spends thirteen years building his palace and the house of the forest of Lebanon. Hiram the craftsman casts the pillars Jachin and Boaz. [Final Chorus] A House for the Name, keep the covenant in view, Every word and ordered service true. From altar, ark, and house the witness rose, The holy God alone the witness shows. [Outro] The lamps burned low, the ordered service stayed. The covenant remembered every vow that had been made.
