Wash and Be Clean

2 Kings 4:38-5:27

[Verse 1] Elisha returns to Gilgal during famine while the prophetic sons sit before him. The men cry that death is in the pottage. A man brings twenty barley loaves and fresh grain from Baal-shalisha. The people eat and leave food according to the LORD's word. [Pre-Chorus] No crowd could see the faithfulness begun, But quiet mercy worked when day was done. [Chorus] Wash and Be Clean, hold the promise near, Through the quiet road and changing year. A faithful heart kept walking without fame, And mercy wrote a future in the name. [Verse 2] Israel's king tears his clothes, believing Syria seeks a quarrel. Elisha summons Naaman so he may know there is a prophet in Israel. Naaman arrives with horses and chariot at Elisha's door. Naaman leaves angry because he expected a dramatic personal healing. [Bridge] Naaman dips seven times, and his flesh becomes like a child's. He returns confessing that no God exists outside Israel and offers gifts. Elisha refuses payment and sends Naaman away in peace. Gehazi lies for silver and garments, then receives Naaman's leprosy. [Final Chorus] Wash and Be Clean, hold the promise near, Through the quiet road and changing year. A faithful heart kept walking without fame, And mercy wrote a future through the name. [Outro] The years moved on, the faithful promise stayed. Mercy was larger than the quiet choice they made.
