[Verse 1] Hezekiah begins reigning at twenty-five and follows David's example. No king of Judah around him equals his trust in the LORD. Samaria's fall is recalled as the consequence of disobedience. Hezekiah pays tribute by stripping silver and gold from temple and palace. [Pre-Chorus] The earth stood still beneath the weight of awe, And every creature waited on the law. [Chorus] The Angel Smote the Camp, let the heavens hear the sound, The proud were shaken, mercy held its ground. He promises false peace and compares God with defeated national idols. The people remain silent under Hezekiah's command. Isaiah promises that a rumor will send the blasphemer home to die. [Bridge] Hezekiah spreads the letter before the LORD and prays for deliverance. Isaiah answers with a prophetic taunt against Sennacherib and a promise for the remnant. The angel of the LORD kills one hundred eighty-five thousand in the Assyrian camp. Sennacherib returns to Nineveh and is murdered by his sons in Nisroch's house.
