A House Established unto David

2 Samuel 7:1-29

[Verse 1] David rests in his cedar house after The LORD gives relief from surrounding enemies. Nathan initially encourages David to follow the desire of his heart. God recalls dwelling in a tent throughout Israel's journey from Egypt. God reminds David that he was taken from following sheep. [Pre-Chorus] The crown looked bright, the burden lay beneath, A throne could shelter life or summon grief. [Chorus] A House Established unto David, every crown is weighed, Thrones are raised and royal vows are made. A kingdom stands only where the word remains, For pride can break what wisdom once sustains. [Verse 2] A descendant after David will establish the kingdom. That son will build a house for God's name. His throne will be established forever. Covenant mercy will not depart as it departed from Saul. [Bridge] Nathan reports the complete vision to David. David sits before the LORD and asks who he is to receive such grace. He praises God's uniqueness and Israel's redemption among the nations. David asks God to confirm the promised house and bless it forever. [Final Chorus] A House Established unto David, every crown is weighed, Thrones are raised and royal vows are made. A kingdom stands only where the word remains, For pride can break what wisdom must sustain. [Outro] The crown passed on, the record kept the cost. No throne could hold what disobedience lost.
