[Verse 1] Doors closed eastward through the Spirit; Troas held the traveling band. In the night a Macedonian Stood and called from foreign land: "Come over and help us." The vision fixed the road. They crossed the sea to Philippi, Where Roman stones and commerce flowed. [Verse 2] Beside the river women gathered; Lydia heard with opened heart. Purple cloth and household baptism Gave the mission room to start. Then a slave girl cried behind them, Fortune bound to masters' gain. Freedom cast the spirit outward; Profit answered rage and chain. [Prison Chorus] At midnight Paul and Silas prayed, Sang hymns while prisoners heard. An earthquake shook foundations, Opened every lock and cord. The jailer drew his sword in terror; A shout stopped death within: "Do thyself no harm; all are here." He asked what saves from sin. [Refrain] Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, And thou shalt be saved. The word filled all the household; Wounds were washed where lashes raved. He set a table before them, Rejoicing through the night. [Final Chorus] Come over and help us: A merchant, captive, jailer heard. Europe's road began in Philippi Through vision, suffering, and word.
