Where the songs go in Micah
The 13 songs here set 4 of the 4 movements in Micah to music: “The Mountains Melt Under Him” (Micah 1–2), “They Build Up Zion with Blood” (Micah 3–4), “But Thou, Bethlehem” (Micah 5–6) and “Who Is a God Like unto Thee” (Micah 7). Others take the book as a whole.
The Mountains Melt Under Him (Micah 1–2). A country prophet from a border town watches the Assyrian advance coming up the valley and names the towns it will take in a run of grim wordplay on their names.
But Thou, Bethlehem (Micah 5–6). Out of the smallest town in Judah comes the one who will rule, whose goings forth have been from of old.
Who Is a God Like unto Thee (Micah 7). The good man is perished out of the earth, a son dishonours his father, and a man’s enemies are the men of his own house, so trust nobody, not even the wife lying in your arms.
