Lyrics · Exodus
A Difference in Goshen
Exodus 8:20-10:29
[Verse 1]
Swarms invaded Egypt, but Goshen stood apart,
A boundary drawn by heaven split the land and split the dark.
Pharaoh bargained worship, then he promised, then withdrew,
Every moment of relief revealed the falsehood that he chose.
[Pre-Chorus]
Cattle fell in Egypt,
But Israel's herds remained alive.
[Chorus]
There was a difference in Goshen,
Light where Egypt lost the sun.
Shelter for the ones who heard the warning,
While judgment fell on those who would not run.
[Verse 2]
Ash became a blister, and the magicians could not stand,
Hail and fire shattered trees and beat the unprotected land.
Some officials feared the word and hurried every servant in,
But Pharaoh called his own heart hard when quiet came again.
[Bridge]
Locusts ate the remnant, darkness swallowed three full days,
Still Israel held light while Egypt stumbled without way.
Pharaoh offered freedom if the flocks were left behind,
But Moses would not bargain with the worship God required.
[Final Chorus]
There was a difference in Goshen,
Light where Egypt lost the sun.
The word became a refuge for the hearer,
While judgment pressed the king who would not run.
[Outro]
Nine plagues had passed,
And one more night remained.
