Blood of the Covenant

Exodus 21:1-24:18

[Verse 1] Justice entered daily life with measures for the weak, Servants, injuries, stolen goods, and judgments people seek. Stranger, widow, orphan stood beneath a solemn shield, Even enemy and animal received the care the law revealed. [Pre-Chorus] Fields would rest and workers cease, Three feasts would gather Israel in peace. [Chorus] Blood of the covenant, words upon the stone, All the people answered with one voice before the throne. Blood upon the altar, blood upon the crowd, They entered what was spoken and the promise bound them now. [Verse 2] An angel would go before them if they listened to His way, Foreign gods and rival altars had no place among the saved. Moses wrote the judgments and twelve pillars marked the tribes, Young men offered sacrifice beneath the mountain height. [Bridge] Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy elders climbed, Saw beneath the feet of God a pavement clear as sky. They ate within the covenant, then Moses crossed the cloud, Forty days beneath the glory that like consuming fire shone out. [Final Chorus] Blood of the covenant, words upon the stone, All the people answered with one voice before the throne. Blood upon the altar, blood upon the crowd, They entered what was spoken and the promise bound them now. [Outro] The mountain held the fire, And Moses vanished in the cloud.
