Lyrics · Exodus
Make Me a Sanctuary
Exodus 25:1-31:18
[Verse 1]
Gold and silver, linen, skins, and acacia wood were named,
Willing hearts would bring the gifts from which the dwelling would be made.
An ark beneath the mercy seat, two cherubim above,
A table bearing bread, a lamp of beaten gold.
[Pre-Chorus]
Curtains formed the hidden room,
A veil stood where the holy presence drew near.
[Chorus]
Make Me a sanctuary, a dwelling in the camp,
Oil to keep the lamps alive, incense rising without end.
Priests clothed with names of Israel, stones upon the heart,
A holy place where God would meet the people set apart.
[Verse 2]
Bronze defined the altar, linen shaped the court,
Aaron wore the ephod and the breastplate of the tribes.
Blood and oil consecrated ear and hand and feet,
Morning lamb and evening lamb kept worship at the meeting place.
[Bridge]
Ransom silver, laver water, oil no common hand could make,
Incense blended for the LORD, no copy for another use.
Bezalel and Aholiab received the Spirit's skill,
Then tablets closed the pattern with the Sabbath covenant seal.
[Final Chorus]
Make Me a sanctuary, a dwelling in the camp,
Oil to keep the lamps alive, incense rising without end.
Priests clothed with names of Israel, stones upon the heart,
A holy place where God would meet the people set apart.
[Outro]
The pattern waited on the mountain,
For willing hands below.
