[Verse 1] Amraphel of Shinar, Arioch of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer of Elam, Tidal king of nations, Four eastern kings went out to war. Bera of Sodom, Birsha of Gomorrah, Shinab of Admah, Shemeber of Zeboiim, And Bela's king of Zoar, five in Siddim; four against five. Twelve years they served; the thirteenth brought rebellion. In the fourteenth came Chedorlaomer and his allied kings. Rephaims, Zuzims, Emins, and Horites to Elparan were struck; Back through Enmishpat, Kadesh, they struck Amalekite country and Amorites at Hazezontamar. [Verse 2] The five kings joined battle in Siddim; four stood against five. The vale was full of slimepits; Sodom and Gomorrah's kings fled and fell there. Those who remained fled toward the mountain. Goods and all provisions from Sodom and Gomorrah were taken away. Lot, dwelling in Sodom, was carried captive with his goods. [Interlude - short] [Verse 3] One escaped and told Abram the Hebrew, In Mamre's plain, with Mamre, Eshcol, and Aner his confederates. When Abram heard that Lot was captive, He armed three hundred and eighteen trained servants, born in his own house, And pursued as far as Dan. By night he divided himself and his servants, and struck; He pursued to Hobah, left of Damascus. He brought back all the goods, Lot and his goods, The women also, and the people. [Verse 4] After Abram returned, the king of Sodom met him In Shaveh, the king's dale. Then Melchizedek, king of Salem, came with bread and wine, Priest of the most high God. [Refrain] Melchizedek blessed him: "Blessed be Abram of the most high God, Possessor of heaven and earth. And blessed be the most high God, Who delivered thine enemies into thy hand." And Abram gave him tithes of all. [Verse 5] The king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give me the persons; take the goods to thyself." Abram answered the king of Sodom, "I have lifted my hand unto the LORD, The most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: I will not take from a thread even to a shoelatchet, I will not take anything that is thine, Lest thou shouldest say, 'I have made Abram rich.'" [Outro] Abram said, "Only what the young men have eaten; Aner, Eshcol, and Mamre, let them take their portion."
