Genesis
[Chorus First] Go from your country, go from your name, Walk toward a promise no map can contain. Blessing will follow the road of belief; Nations will gather beneath one leaf. Go from your kindred, the old life behind; Faith takes the first step before it can find. [Verse 1] Seventy-five with the tents folded tight, Abram set out in the morning light. Sarai beside him, possessions and souls, Crossing through Shechem toward unknown goals. Canaan lay open, but strangers were there; An altar rose under Moreh's great air. [Post-Chorus] He called on the name of the Lord, Stone after stone on the road. [Verse 2] No palace received him, no border was won, Only the word and the heat of the sun. Bethel behind and the wilderness near, Promise grew louder than distance or fear. Through him the families of earth would be blessed; The wandering servant moved south without rest. [Final Chorus] Go from your country, go from your name, Walk toward a promise no map can contain. Blessing will follow the road of belief; Nations will gather beneath one leaf. Faith takes the first step, though nothing is shown; The road becomes holy when God leads it on.

About the passage

Genesis 12: A promised blessing enters an insecure household

Genesis 12 introduces Abram’s call with promises that reach far beyond the security he is told to leave. God will show the land, make the nation, make Abram’s name great, and extend blessing to all families of the earth. Abram reaches Canaan, but the promise immediately shares space with two awkward facts: the Canaanites are already there, and Sarai still has no child. His first marks on the land are tents and altars rather than possession. Then famine drives the household toward Egypt, where Abram’s effort to protect himself by presenting Sarai as his sister secures his safety while exposing her to Pharaoh’s house. The plan produces wealth and danger together. Divine intervention restores Sarai, and Pharaoh supplies the questions Genesis does not need to answer with an editorial speech. Abram leaves Egypt with wife and possessions intact, but without a recorded defense of the strategy that endangered the household carrying the promise.
