[Verse 1] Word came from Bethany: The one He loved was ill. Two more days He lingered, Then turned toward danger still. Martha met Him on the road: "Hadst Thou been here, death would not be." Yet hope remained beneath her grief, Though burial marked the family. [Refrain] He is the resurrection and the life. Who believes shall live though death has come. He is the resurrection and the life. The grave does not possess the final word. [Verse 2] Mary fell and wept before Him; Neighbors carried sorrow near. Jesus groaned within His spirit; The shortest verse became a tear. At the tomb He ordered stone removed. Martha spoke of four-day decay. Prayer rose upward before the crowd, Then authority called the dead away. [Chorus] Lazarus, come forth! The bound man crossed the door. Gravecloth wrapped his hands and feet, But death could hold no more. Loose him and let him go; Let every witness see: Lazarus, come forth! Life called him from mortality. [Final Refrain] Some believed beside the tomb; Some carried news toward fear. The sign that brought one brother home Made rulers draw death near. He is the resurrection and the life.
