This Is My Beloved Son: Hear Him
Luke · Modern Classical
[Verse 1 - measured ascent]
Peter, John, and James climbed after Him,
Up where the road gave way to prayer.
As He prayed, His countenance altered,
His raiment flashed white in the mountain air.
[Verse 2 - luminous stillness]
Moses and Elias stood in glory,
Speaking of the departure set for Jerusalem.
Heavy eyes opened and saw Him shining;
Peter reached for tabernacles he did not understand.
[Bridge - single declaration]
The cloud came over them; fear entered with it.
Then the Father's voice divided every other word:
This is My beloved Son.
Hear Him.
[Verse 3 - valley fracture]
Next day, below the hill, an only child was torn,
A father cried; the disciples could not free him.
Bring thy son hither. The spirit cast him down.
Jesus rebuked it, healed the child, and gave him back.
[Outro - unresolved saying]
They marveled at the mighty power of God,
But wonder did not open what came next:
Let these sayings sink down into your ears.
The Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men.
They understood not, and feared to ask.
