He Is Risen
Mark · Neofolklore
[Verse 1 - very early]
When the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene,
Mary the mother of James, and Salome
Brought sweet spices to anoint him,
And came at the rising of the sun.
[Verse 2 - the stone]
Who shall roll away the stone from the door?
Looking up, they saw it rolled away,
Though it was very great;
Inside, a young man sat clothed in white.
[Chorus - the empty place]
Be not affrighted: ye seek Jesus of Nazareth,
Which was crucified.
He is risen; he is not here.
Behold the place where they laid him.
[Bridge - tell Peter]
Go your way, tell his disciples and Peter
That he goeth before you into Galilee.
Mary told them that mourned and wept,
Yet when they heard, they believed not.
[Verse 3 - afterward]
He appeared unto two as they walked into the country,
Then unto the eleven as they sat at meat.
He reproved their unbelief and hardness of heart,
Because they believed not those who had seen.
[Outro - the commission]
Go ye into all the world,
And preach the gospel to every creature.
After the Lord had spoken, he was received into heaven;
They went forth, and the Lord worked with them.
[Outro]
He is risen; he is not here.
The word was confirmed with signs following.
