Abraham Believed God
Romans · sacred choral-orchestral
[Question]
What found Abraham according to flesh?
What wage could make the ungodly blessed?
The worker may count what the labor has earned,
But faith receives mercy where merit is burned.
[Refrain]
Abraham believed God,
And it was counted for righteousness.
Before the mark and before the law,
The promise rested on grace for all.
Abraham believed God,
Against hope he believed in hope.
[Verse II]
He considered his body, yet staggered no more,
Fully persuaded that God could perform.
The record was written not only for him,
But for those who believe in the risen Lord.
[Chorus]
Justified by faith, we have peace with God,
Access into grace where the weary may stand.
Tribulation works patience, experience hope,
And love is poured out by the Spirit within.
While we were yet sinners, Christ died in our place,
The powerless reconciled through His grace.
[Adam and Christ]
By one man sin entered and death crossed the earth,
By one man's obedience came life and new worth.
The offense abounded, but grace did much more,
A gift without measure where judgment once stood.
[Final Refrain]
Abraham believed God,
And it was counted for righteousness.
Grace reigns through righteousness unto life,
By Jesus Christ, our Lord and our hope.
[Outro]
The promise was not purchased,
It was received by faith.
