[Verse 1] A prophet's servant brought oil to Ramoth, Poured it on Jehu and fled from the room. Captains blew trumpets and spread out their garments: "Jehu is king," rang the word of coming doom. He drove like a madman toward Jezreel's watchtower; Joram rode outward and asked, "Is it peace?" "What peace," came the answer, "while Jezebel's whoredoms And witchcrafts continue and never have ceased?" [Chorus] Jezebel at the window, Painted eyes above the gate, Mocked the rider coming swiftly, But the word had fixed her fate. "Who is on my side?" Jehu shouted; Servants looked from where they stood. Jezebel fell from the window, And her blood marked horse and wood. [Verse 2] They went to bury the daughter of kings, But little remained in the field where she lay. The word through Elijah had crossed every season: Dogs in Jezreel would consume her away. Ahab's descendants were judged through the kingdom; Baal's house was broken by cunning and sword. Yet Jehu kept calves that Jeroboam fashioned, Zeal was not whole in the sight of the Lord. [Coda] A throne may execute judgment And still leave idols within. Jezebel fell at the window; Jehu did not finish with sin.
