Lyrics · 2 Samuel
Bring Up the Ark with Shouting
2 Samuel 5:1-6:23
[Verse 1]
All Israel gathers at Hebron and acknowledges David as their own flesh.
David makes covenant with the elders and is anointed king over all Israel.
The Jebusites mock David's attempt to enter Jerusalem.
Hiram of Tyre sends materials and craftsmen to build David a house.
[Pre-Chorus]
The people drew near, but not by careless way,
Holiness ordered every word and day.
[Chorus]
Bring Up the Ark with Shouting, keep the covenant in view,
Every word and ordered service true.
From altar, ark, and house the witness rose,
The holy God alone the ending knows.
[Verse 2]
A second Philistine advance is defeated after the sound in the mulberry trees.
David gathers chosen men to bring the ark from Baale of Judah.
The ark rides on a new cart guided by Uzzah and Ahio.
David is displeased and afraid, naming the place Perez-uzzah.
[Bridge]
David brings the ark upward with sacrifice, shouting.
Michal watches David dance and despises him in her heart.
The ark is set in its tent, offerings are made.
David defends his humility before God, and Michal remains childless.
[Final Chorus]
Bring Up the Ark with Shouting, keep the covenant in view,
Every word and ordered service true.
From altar, ark, and house the witness rose,
The holy God alone the witness shows.
[Outro]
The lamps burned low, the ordered service stayed.
The covenant remembered every vow that had been made.
