[Part One - Exile] Moses struck Egypt and fled from the throne, Sat by a well in a country unknown. Years with the sheep on the far side of sand, A prince turned shepherd with staff in his hand. Then Horeb held fire that did not consume; A thornbush burned brighter than afternoon. [Refrain] Take off the sandals; the ground has become Holy beneath where the wanderer has come. The cry has been heard, and the hour draws nigh; The God of the fathers has seen and come down. [Part Two - The Call] Moses drew nearer, then covered his face; Abraham's God had remembered His grace. Egypt would answer, the captives go free, A land milk and honey would wait beyond sea. Moses asked, "Who am I? What name shall be shown?" The answer stood deeper than kingdom or stone. [Question and Answer] What is in thy hand? A staff for the road. What can it become? A sign of God's word. What if they doubt? Let wonders reply. What if speech falters? The Maker stands by. [Final Refrain] Fire in the bush, but the branches remained; A shepherd was summoned, a nation unchained. Aaron would meet him; the staff would go too. Moses turned Egyptward, called now to do What fear said impossible, what mercy had planned: Lead out the people with staff in his hand.
