Whosoever Will Go Up

Ezra 1:1-2:70

[Verse 1] In Cyrus's first year God stirs the Persian king's spirit. Cyrus confesses that the God of heaven gave him kingdoms. Every willing member of God's people is invited to go upward. Freewill offerings are added specifically for the house of God. [Pre-Chorus] The road bent farther than the eye could know, Yet every camp was marked before they had to go. [Chorus] Whosoever Will Go Up, keep moving on the road, Through the wilderness beneath the heavy load. The hand of God marked every place and mile, And promise kept the weary rank and file. [Verse 2] Mithredath counts the treasures to Sheshbazzar prince of Judah. Gold and silver chargers, basins, and other vessels are numbered. Five thousand four hundred sacred articles travel from Babylon to Jerusalem. Israelite families are listed by ancestral house and number. [Bridge] Levites, singers, gatekeepers, Nethinims, and Solomon's servants are counted. Some families cannot prove Israelite or priestly genealogy. The congregation totals forty-two thousand three hundred sixty, besides servants and singers. Animals, voluntary temple gifts, priestly garments, and resettlement in ancestral cities complete the return. [Final Chorus] Whosoever Will Go Up, keep moving on the road, Through the wilderness beneath the heavy load. The hand of God marked every place and mile, And promise kept the weary through every trial. [Outro] Another camp, another stretch of land. The road moved on beneath the guiding hand.
