The Blessing and the Ladder

Genesis 25:19-28:22

[Verse 1] Two nations struggled before the brothers saw the light, Esau came red and Jacob held the heel with all his might. One hunted through the open, one remained among the tents, And birthright passed for lentils in a moment of contempt. [Pre-Chorus] Wells were stopped and opened, Favor split a household down the line. [Chorus] The blessing passed through borrowed clothes, Through trembling hands and bitter cries. Then Jacob fled beneath the night, And found a ladder joining earth and sky. [Verse 2] Rebekah shaped deception while blind Isaac reached to know, The voice belonged to Jacob, but the garments smelled of Esau. The covenant words were spoken, and the elder came too late, His cry filled all the chamber while revenge began to wait. [Bridge] A stone became a pillow on the road toward Padan-aram, Angels moved upon the stair while God renewed the promise. Jacob woke in holy fear and raised the stone where he had lain, Calling Bethel the house of God before he walked again. [Final Chorus] The blessing passed through borrowed clothes, Through trembling hands and bitter cries. Yet on the road beyond the wrong, A ladder opened earth to heaven's light. [Outro] The brother fled, the promise stayed, And Bethel marked the road ahead.
