[Verse 1]
A captain stood with a sword in his hand;
Joshua bowed at the edge of the land.
Not by man's side did the warrior appear;
Holy ground answered and silenced his fear.
Jericho shut like a clenched iron fist,
But heaven gave orders no siegecraft had guessed.
[March Refrain]
Once around in silence,
Six days the same.
Ark in the middle,
Priests before the name.
Seven horns sounding,
Footsteps on the ground;
On the seventh morning,
Seven times around.
[Chorus]
The trumpets cried,
The people shouted,
The walls came down beneath the sound.
No ladder climbed,
No ram had struck them;
The walls fell flat upon the ground.
The scarlet cord remained unbroken;
Rahab's house stood safe and sound.
The city closed against the promise,
But the walls came down.
[Verse 2]
Silver and gold were reserved for the Lord;
Nothing devoted was taken or stored.
Rahab and kindred were brought from the place,
A foreign household received into grace.
Joshua charged that the ruins remain,
A witness of judgment, a warning of pain.
[Final Chorus]
The trumpets cried,
The people shouted,
The walls came down beneath the sound.
The road to Canaan opened farther;
The walls came down.
