[Verse 1]
Simon carried wood to Golgotha;
Women mourned along the road.
Soldiers nailed Him between transgressors,
Cast the lots for what He wore.
A title stood in three tongues over Him:
Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.
Rulers mocked the One who saved others;
One dying thief asked mercy and knew.
[Refrain]
From the sixth hour darkness covered
Every hill and city wall.
The earth held breath beneath the cross;
The righteous blood began to fall.
The ancient psalm of deep forsaking
Rose through the dark and burdened air.
Heaven's Lamb endured the sentence;
No legion came to spare Him there.
[Verse 2]
He gave His mother to the disciple,
Tasted vinegar when thirst was known.
The final work reached completion;
He bowed His head and yielded spirit.
The temple veil tore top to bottom;
Rocks split open, graves were stirred.
The centurion saw the manner
And confessed what death had heard.
[Chorus]
It is finished.
The debt has reached its end.
It is finished.
The sacrifice is made.
No bone was broken; side was pierced;
Blood and water testified.
It is finished.
The King of glory died.
[Final Refrain]
The daylight failed,
The veil was riven.
Earth shook beneath
What had been given.
It is finished.
