[Verse 1]
Solomon loved many foreign women;
Their gods entered where affection led.
High places rose for Chemosh and Molech,
Incense climbed where covenant had bled.
The heart once wise became divided;
The king who built the holy room
Raised rival altars on the ridges,
Planting fracture after bloom.
[Chorus]
The kingdom torn,
Not all at once, but thread by thread.
The kingdom torn
Where borrowed gods were welcomed in.
For David's sake one tribe would linger,
Jerusalem would keep its light;
But ten would leave the house of Solomon
Because his heart had left the right.
[Verse 2]
Hadad rose from Edom's sorrow,
Rezon troubled from the north.
Jeroboam met Ahijah
As the prophet journeyed forth.
A new coat split into twelve pieces;
Ten were placed within his hand.
The sign declared the coming division,
A rent across the promised land.
[Bridge]
Solomon sought to kill the servant;
Egypt hid him till the day.
Forty years of gold and wisdom
Could not keep decline away.
[Final Chorus]
The kingdom torn,
A warning written through a king:
Gifts cannot replace devotion,
Wisdom cannot pardon wandering.
The royal house would feel the fracture
Born beneath idolatry;
The kingdom torn,
Yet one lamp kept for David's seed.
