Lyrics · 2 Kings
No Baal Left in the House
2 Kings 9:14-10:36
[Verse 1]
Jehu conspires against Joram while the wounded king recovers at Jezreel.
Two messengers sent to ask peace join Jehu instead.
Jehu rejects peace while Jezebel's whoredoms and witchcrafts continue.
Ahaziah flees, is wounded, and dies at Megiddo.
[Pre-Chorus]
The warning stood where no one wished to see,
And every hidden root became a tree.
[Chorus]
No Baal Left in the House, let the warning remain,
Hidden sin still flowers into pain.
The word of the LORD exposed what men concealed,
And judgment stood where every heart was revealed.
[Verse 2]
Dogs leave only her skull, feet, and palms according to Elijah's word.
Jehu writes Samaria's rulers concerning Ahab's seventy sons.
The terrified leaders kill the princes and send their heads in baskets.
He kills the remaining house of Ahab and its allies in Jezreel.
[Bridge]
Jehonadab joins Jehu after the king tests whether his heart is right.
Jehu announces a great sacrifice to Baal and gathers every worshipper.
The worshippers are killed, and Baal's images and house are destroyed.
Jehu retains the golden calves, receives a four-generation promise.
[Final Chorus]
No Baal Left in the House, let the warning remain,
Hidden sin still flowers into pain.
The word of the LORD exposed what men concealed,
And judgment stood where every heart stood revealed.
[Outro]
The warning did not vanish with the dust.
The final line remembered judgment, fear, and trust.
