Where the songs go in Leviticus

The 16 songs here set 5 of the 6 movements in Leviticus to music: “Five Ways to Come to the Door” (Leviticus 1–7), “Fire on the Eighth Day” (Leviticus 8–10), “What May Come Near” (Leviticus 11–15), “One Day a Year” (Leviticus 16–17) and “Sabbaths That Stack Into a Jubilee” (Leviticus 23–27).

Five Ways to Come to the Door (Leviticus 1–7). Before a single offering is made, five are described: whole burnt, grain, peace, sin and guilt.

What May Come Near (Leviticus 11–15). Food, childbirth, a rash that will not clear, mildew creeping through the plaster of a house.

Sabbaths That Stack Into a Jubilee (Leviticus 23–27). Feasts fill the year and rest fills the week, and then the sabbaths pile up: seven sevens of years, and the fiftieth announced with a trumpet.

Not in song here yet: “Be Holy, Because I Am Holy”.
