Acts 8:37. A KJV inclui a pergunta de Filipe sobre crer de todo o coração e a confissão do eunuco de que Jesus Cristo é o Filho de Deus. Os manuscritos gregos mais antigos e fortes de Atos omitem o versículo 37, enquanto testemunhos posteriores o preservam.
A leitura longa torna explícita uma confissão imediatamente antes do batismo. A leitura curta passa diretamente do pedido do eunuco para a parada da carruagem e o batismo. Os cristãos divergem sobre o estado textual do versículo e sobre como batismo, confissão e instrução se relacionam na prática.
A questão manuscrita não deve se tornar a alegação de que o texto curto não possui fé. A passagem ao redor se concentra na figura sofredora de Isaías, na proclamação de Jesus por Filipe, no pedido do eunuco e em sua partida com alegria.
