David, the old king of Israel, gathers his leaders in Jerusalem, the royal city. Israel is God's people, and David's son Solomon has been chosen to build its temple, the permanent house for worship. The Leaders Hear Why Solomon Will Build
David tells the assembled leaders that he wanted to build a resting place for the ark, the sacred chest of God's covenant. God refused because David had fought wars and shed blood. Yet God chose David to rule and chose Solomon from his sons to build. God promises to secure Solomon's kingdom if he keeps obeying. David urges all the people to seek and keep God's commands. Solomon Must Seek God with His Whole Heart
David speaks directly to Solomon. He tells him to know his father's God and serve with an undivided heart and a willing mind. God sees every heart and understands hidden thoughts. If Solomon seeks him, he will find him. If he abandons him, God will reject him for ever. David then reminds him that God chose him to build the sanctuary, the place set apart for worship. He must be strong and act. The charge concerns who Solomon is before God, not only whether the building gets finished.
In everyday life
The sports captain speaks privately with the player who will replace her. Public effort is not enough if he quietly abandons the team's standards whenever nobody watches. She asks whether he truly accepts the responsibility before he takes the badge. The choice involves more than a visible result. David speaks of God knowing every thought and judging abandonment.

1 Chronicles 28:9 David's warning reaches thoughts as well as outward acts. Solomon cannot treat the temple project as a public achievement that hides a divided loyalty from God.

The Plans Include Rooms Vessels and Workers
Solomon receives plans from David for the entrance, rooms, courts, stores and the place of the mercy seat, the ark's sacred cover. He also supplies plans for priestly and Levite groups and all the vessels used in worship. Gold and silver are weighed for lamps, tables, bowls and other objects. The incense altar and winged cherub figures are included. David says God made him understand the design in writing. The handover reaches from the whole building down to particular objects. Solomon receives a defined task, not a bare wish to build something grand.
In everyday life
The shipyard designer rolls out plans beside labelled metal samples for the next foreman. Cabin layouts, small fittings and crew spaces all appear in the handover. A large vessel cannot be built from a striking sketch alone. Details turn a broad aim into work people can carry out. David attributes the temple design itself to God's guidance.

Solomon Is Promised Help to Finish
David urges Solomon to be strong and begin without fear. God will be with him and will not leave him before the house's service is ready. Priests and Levites stand prepared for their duties. Willing skilled workers are available for each task, and the leaders and people are ready to obey. Solomon is not told that the work will be small. He is told that help is present for the work's full size. The final charge joins God's faithfulness with the practical support already gathered around him.
In everyday life
A rescue trainee stands at the edge of a steep training wall. The instructor names the crew, checked ropes and support waiting at each stage, then tells her to begin. Confidence grows from knowing what help is actually there. The height has not changed. David's assurance includes God's unfailing presence through the completion of sacred work.
